The MQ VIENNA FASHION WEEK celebrated its 15th edition and with it, Graz-based designer Manuel Essl his tenth collection. With “Cosmic Bloom” MED opened a universe of breathtaking fabrics and metallic elements. Alongside the anniversary collection, Essl celebrated a premiere: for the first time, silver accents were added to MED’s signature floral and blossom patterns.
“The new collection ‚Cosmic Bloom‘ is a mixture of the cosmic and the floral. These are two worlds that inspire me very much,” is how Manuel Essl describes his tenth collection. For the first time, he dared to create galactic all-silver outfits. Unusual cuts paired with soft and opulent velvet fabric conjured up a futuristic look.
No less impressive were floral and flower prints embroidered on silky fabrics. “By now they have become my trademark. You can reinterpret them every season, they are always on trend,” says the 30-year-old fashion designer. Speaking of trademarks: A plate skirt designed in shades of green, made of vertical panels separated by metallic zips, was reminiscent of Essl’s iconic signature piece. Essl used four metres of metallic zippers in the double-breasted skirt.
Alongside floral prints on delicate pink and bold green fabrics, black and white check patterns dominated the Graz-based designer’s fashion show. In addition to an Asymmetric Dress with cut-outs, a Blazer Dress and Pencil Skirt, the Biker Trousers with zips in the middle of the front—which serve as a slit for the whole leg—were a sexy-glamorous eye-catcher.
With his anniversary collection “Cosmic Bloom”, Manuel Essl once again proved his love of detail and ability to fuse high fashion and streetwear with exciting prints, high-quality fabrics and metallic-galactic elements.
