The contrasts of the seasons are a constant challenge. Outside and inside, warm and cold are the principles of atmospheric compression – these criteria determine the clothing. The contrasts are inspiration and firmly woven into the processing of materials.
The combination of soft boiled wool with thick fabrics in addition to flowing materials creates a wide range of tactile snapshots. Colors are somewhat muted, but bright accents repeatedly create refreshing opportunities to defy darkness and escape melancholy. Fine lines snake around the body, pants and skirts, form structured build-ups on the hips and further three-dimensional structures. With ever-changing shapes, cut-outs and appliqués, attention is drawn to specific forms.
Maria Oberfrank studied at the University of Applied Arts with Marc Bohan, J.C.de Castelbajeac, Vivienne Westwood and graduated in 1995 with Helmut Lang. After her studies she founded her own fashion label PITOUR with women’s & men’s fashion and accessories, which she has been running ever since. After several working stays, among others in Brazil, Germany and the USA, she got the chance to establish her own showroom/shop, the COMBINAT as part of the Quartier21 in the MuseumsQuartier Vienna in 2005.
This was followed by the establishment of the modequartiershows in the following years with the highlight of the “Summer of Fashion” in 2012 as the initiator. For the first time in the MQ’s existence, all of the MQ’s institutions were persuaded to conceive a program focus on the topic of “fashion” with exhibitions, performances, and much more, and the MQ became a fashion hotspot. In 2009 she founded the MQ VIENNA FASHION WEEK, which she has since organized every September with her partners as creative headz.
The MQ VIENNA FASHION WEEK brings together local and international designers and presents a broad spectrum of fashion creativity. With the MQ Fashion Night, PITOUR presents the highlights from their collections with a specially invited fashion designer as artist-in-residence of Quartier21 with a fashion show.
